The Marrakech International Film Festival marked its 20th anniversary last year. During the 2023 edition (held from November 24 to December 2), the documentary film "The Mother of All Lies" by Moroccan director Asmae El Moudir received the festival's Grand Prix (Étoile d'Or).
This was the first time a Moroccan film has been awarded the Étoile d'Or in the history of this global cinematic event.
