CERAWeek: Energy Minister Leila Benali Highlights Morocco’s Key Role as Corridor Linking Europe, Africa, and the Atlantic Basin

The minister emphasized that the establishment of a bi-directional corridor between Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic Basin is not only a matter of security—part of the competitiveness equation—but, above all, a matter of accessibility for everyone in the region, she remarked.
Benali further highlighted that the Atlantic Corridor has the potential to provide access to alternative energy sources for 400 million consumers in Africa, generating significant economies of scale. She also outlined the broader objectives of Morocco’s energy strategy, emphasizing connectivity as a cornerstone of a tripartite framework, with renewable energy and energy efficiency as its two other key pillars.
The minister added that Morocco has made substantial investments to achieve connectivity, aiming to “foster economic growth in the African region while linking it with Europe.” Central to this strategy is the construction of the Africa-Atlantic gas pipeline, which not only ensures a reliable gas supply but also offers the potential to transfer green hydrogen.

On the sidelines of the event, Minister Benali held a productive meeting with U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, exploring significant opportunities for enhanced cooperation in energy and strategic bilateral investments. A key area of focus was Africa, reflecting both countries’ shared commitment to fostering inclusive prosperity and strengthening the continent's energy security.
CERAWeek 2025, recognized as one of the world’s leading energy events, convened in Houston, the global energy capital, with over 450 top executives and ministers, alongside more than 10,000 participants from over 2,050 companies across 80 countries.
