Commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the Presentation of the Manifesto for the Independence of Morocco
Late HM King Mohammed V, May His Soul rest in peace, had expressed in the framework of the Anfa Conference held in Casablanca in 1943, Morocco’s desire for independence and after various meetings with the leaders of the liberation movement, the Sovereign’s initiative to present this manifesto leading to Independence came into existence.
This key event constituted a turning point in the national struggle led by the Moroccan Royal family and People against the protectorate. 67 Moroccans signed the public manifesto demanding the independence of Morocco with the respect of its territorial integrity and submitted it to the Protectorate authorities. Among these figures was a pioneer woman, Malika el Fassi whose contribution highlights the leading role played by Moroccan women in the fight for the Kingdom’s liberation.
Later on, this event was followed by the historic Speech of April 1947 delivered by the Moroccan Sovereign in Tangier, where He publicly claimed the independence of the Kingdom.
The struggle continued and the exile of His Majesty King Mohammed V and the Royal family in 1953 marked the start of a decisive battle that went on until the proclamation of independence two years later.
This commemoration is a reminder of the nation’s enduring spirit and resilience. This landmark event in our history marks equally the Kingdom’s unwavering attachment to sovereignty, national unity and sacred values.
