EU High Representative Borrell Reaffirms ‘Immense Value’ of Strategic Partnership with Morocco
“The partnership between Morocco and the European Union is of immense value to both parties,” Borrell affirmed, echoing the sentiment across the 27 member states. He highlighted their collective commitment to strengthening the longstanding, multifaceted cooperation that has evolved over decades, with a shared vision for deepening ties in the future.
Central to Borrell’s address was the recognition of recent legal developments in EU-Morocco agreements, particularly in fisheries and agriculture, as adjudicated by the European Court of Justice. This underscores the EU’s steadfast dedication to nurturing its close rapport with Morocco, a commitment reaffirmed in a joint statement with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. This statement emphasized the EU's determination to uphold and reinforce relations with Morocco across various domains.
Borrell invoked the principle of “pacta sunt servanda” — agreements must be kept — underscoring the EU’s pledge to honor its commitments made in partnership with Morocco. This principle forms the cornerstone of their cooperative endeavors, ensuring reliability and trustworthiness in their engagements.
“In close collaboration with Morocco, the EU aims to continue nurturing and safeguarding this invaluable partnership in all areas,” Borrell concluded, encapsulating the EU’s proactive stance towards fostering stability and prosperity in the region.
