A French Delegation of Business Leaders visits the Laayoune Sakia El Hamra Region
The French Delegation visited some structural projects under construction, including the seawater desalination plant in Dakhla, powered entirely by wind energy, and the Dakhla Atlantic port, designed to make of the Region a leading Regional hub linking Morocco to its African roots.
In addition to an economic roadshow organized by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco (CFCIM), this visit was equally marked by meetings with the governor of the Dakhla- Oued Ed-Dahab Region, Ali Khalil, the president of the Regional council, El Khattat Yanja, the president of the Dakhla Collective Council, Ragheb Hourmtallah as well as with the Wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra Region and governor of Laayoune province, Abdeslam Bekrate.
In declarations to the Press, Ambassador Lecourtier underlined that this trip aims to transform French-Moroccan cooperation into tangible projects across cultural, economic, social, educational, and university sectors. "We are looking forward to accelerating the implementation of emerging projects,” the ambassador underlined, emphasizing the readiness to launch new initiatives, especially in the economic field, to seize diverse opportunities in Morocco’s southern provinces.
On the same occasion, the President of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Morocco, Claudia Gaudio-Francisco underlined that the aim of this visit is to enable French businessmen to explore investment opportunities and to visit major infrastructures in the Region.
She added that the objective is to learn about the completed and planned projects in the framework of the Regional development program and to highlight the willingness of French companies to participate in this approach of «joint construction» which would contribute to the realization of major projects in the southern provinces, as part of the multidimensional cooperation between France and Morocco.
Similarly, the Director General of Bureau Veritas North Africa, Bruno Beto expressed his admiration for the Region's enormous development potential, especially in the field of green energy, emphasizing that many French actors are interested in investment opportunities in this part of the Kingdom's territory. The French delegation noted, equally, the Kingdom's capability to implement large-scale projects, as reflected by the economic growth of Morocco’s southern provinces.
This visit comes to reiterate the excellent momentum of cooperation between Morocco and France following the historic visit of the President Emmanuel Macron in which he reaffirmed that “the present and future of the Sahara” are within Moroccan sovereignty.
