Casablanca - During the first eleven months of this year, airports in Morocco hosted a total of 24,737,734 passengers, reflecting growth rates of 7% compared to the same period in 2019 and a substantial 34% increase compared to 2022, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).

This positive trend is noticeable across most airports, with significant boosts in passenger traffic compared to 2019, including remarkable increases at the airports of Tetouan (+506%), Essaouira (+54%), Tangier (+42%), Nador (+34%), Oujda (+33%), Fez (+22%), and Agadir (+13%), as highlighted in the statement released by the Office.
The surge in passenger numbers can be attributed to the resumption of many flights that were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and the establishment of several new air routes, as explained by ONDA.
Mohammed V Airport, in particular, achieved an impressive recovery rate of 95% during these first 11 months compared to the same period in 2019, welcoming a total of 8,970,014 passengers.
Looking at international traffic for November, it continued its upward trajectory with a 10% increase compared to November 2019 and a significant 35% rise compared to November 2022, reaching a total of 22,298,582 passengers, according to the same source.
This positive performance is mainly driven by air traffic with Europe, recording 18,390,599 passengers, marking a 14% increase compared to 2019 and a substantial 34% rise compared to 2022. The market has seen the establishment of several new connections serving airports in Morocco.
This growth trend extends to the North American and African segments, posting respective growth rates of 17% and 7% during these first 11 months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2019.
For the month of November, airports in Morocco welcomed 2,108,938 passengers, representing a 6% increase compared to November 2019 and a 10% increase compared to November 2022.
