Morocco’s Budget Deficit Amounts to MAD 62.8 Bln in 2023

12
Morocco’s budget deficit stood at 62.8 billion dirhams, or 4.4% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

This is slightly lower than the objective of the 2023 Finance Law (4.5% of GDP) and an improvement of 1 point of GDP compared to 2022 (5.4% of GDP), the ministry pointed out in its latest report on the situation of Treasury charges and resources (SCRT).

This deficit control was achieved thanks to the good performance of tax and non-tax revenues, which contributed to accelerating the investment effort in some structuring projects, particularly within the framework of the National Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation Program (PNAEPI), to cover exceptional expenses relating to the governmental measures aimed at supporting the purchasing power of households and economic activity and to help the populations affected by the Al-Haouz earthquake, the same source noted.
