Establishment of Diplomatic Relations (1905)
The year 1905 witnessed the inception of diplomatic relations between the United States and Morocco, leading to the establishment of the American Legation in Tangier. On March 8th of that year, the American consulate in Tangier was elevated to the status of a legation, with Samuel Gummere appointed as the American Minister Plenipotentiary. He received his official letter of credence on March 21st, 1905 and presented his credentials on September 29th, 1906, thereby formalizing the commencement of his diplomatic responsibilities in Tangier.
