Samantha Power hails Morocco’s Energy Transition Progress
At a ceremony to introduce the new USAID Mission Director in Morocco, Randy Ali, held in Washington in the presence of Youssef Amrani, Ambassador of the Kingdom to the United States, Mrs. Samantha Power spoke of Morocco's capacity in producing and exporting fertilizers, as well as its determination to produce more than a third of its electricity from renewable energy sources.
Mrs. Power praised Morocco’s goal to increase the share of renewable energies to 52% by 2030, stressing that this ambition makes Morocco “a leader not only in the region but Worldwide”.
Referring to her recent visit to Morocco, Power said she had witnessed the "extraordinary" determination she observed in advancing progress and development.
Highlighting the partnership between USAID and Morocco, she revealed that since 2021, the U.S. Agency for International Development's Mission in the Kingdom has more than doubled in funding increasing from 16% in 2021 to nearly 40% in 2023.
For his part, Ambassador Youssef Amrani praised the "exceptional and long-standing" cooperation between the USAID and Morocco, highlighting the "crucial role" of the American agency's education programs, water management, public health, microfinance and women's empowerment.
The diplomat also pointed out the significant potential for strengthening cooperation in various areas such as food security and water management.
Regionally, Mr. Amrani stressed the importance of further developing trilateral projects in Africa, building on recent initiatives launched in partnership with the OCP Group in the agricultural sector.
In this respect, Mr. Amrani discussed the Kingdom's public policies designed to stimulate, and deepen development dynamics across strategic sectors.
He asserted that these strategies stem from a vision promoted at the highest level by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, placing the human dimension at the heart of all considerations and as the ultimate goal for any approach aimed at improving inclusive prosperity, both nationally and on the African continent.
The newly appointed USAID Director in Morocco Randy Ali noted his intention to contribute beyond bilateral cooperation to strengthen Morocco’s leadership in Africa, through strategic and targeted project funding, particularly in food security and health.
