Morocco has been elected as Interpol’s Vice-President for Africa during the organization’s 92nd General Assembly in Glasgow, Scotland. This election marks a significant step for Morocco, reinforcing its role as a key player in both regional and international security efforts. The Moroccan delegation was led by Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST).

Backed by delegates from 96 member states, Morocco secured a decisive win at Interpol’s General Assembly, with Mohamed Dkhissi, Director of the Judicial Police and Head of Interpol-Rabat’s National Central Bureau, elected to represent Africa. With his extensive experience, Dkhissi is expected to drive closer cooperation with African nations in addressing pressing security challenges.

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) highlighted that Morocco’s candidacy aligns with the Royal vision for enhanced South-South cooperation with African partners. This approach prioritizes strengthening relationships across multiple levels, including in the security sector.

Morocco’s security strategy in Africa supports the development of police structures across the continent. The Kingdom’s security officials outlined objectives focused on training and developing police personnel, enhancing general security frameworks, and improving cooperation among African countries in the field. These initiatives target critical issues like illegal immigration and human trafficking, aiming to dismantle broader cross-border criminal networks. Through this position, Morocco aims to build stronger ties with African nations, enabling swift, coordinated responses to terrorist threats linked to the regional ramifications of extremist organizations.

Moreover, Morocco is committed to addressing unconventional security risks, such as the use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies by organized crime groups, which pose new challenges for law enforcement worldwide. In this context, the Kingdom’s vision aligns closely with Interpol’s mission to enhance national capabilities and support global information exchange, essential for combating transnational crime and dismantling organized crime networks.
